Transforming AR in B2B companies drives customer satisfaction and growth
While accounts receivable (AR) innovation has been relatively commonplace among consumer-to-business payments, progress in the B2B realm has been more fragmented. Yet the B2B companies that transform AR processes see impressive results.​

Digitizing and automating AR naturally streamlines processes and reduces manual interventions, which inherently reduces days sales outstanding (DSO) and creates more stable long-term efficiencies. But the most important benefit of a more digital and automated AR process may be less predictable: happier buyers.

“Ten to 15 years ago, buyer satisfaction didn’t have the same priority within B2B organizations,” says Sachin Thakur, who leads Digital Receivables and Healthcare Products in Global Treasury Management at U.S. Bank. “Now that has to be the number one priority. Especially within the B2B space, having a satisfied buyer means they can give more business to you.”

Transitioning from checks to digital supplier payments — leveraging traditional payment types such as ACH as well as new instant payment alternatives — can be a winning path. Accounts payable automation and tools such as electronic invoicing free up time for staff and can enable better experiences on both sides of the transaction.

Sometimes when treasury managers hear “digital payments migration,” they envision an end-to-end, all-digital accounts payable optimization. And, for many, the thought of quickly transitioning to that type of new environment is intimidating. But, as your bank team will tell you, it’s okay to start out small.

“The journey to digital payments can be broken down into simple steps, whether it’s one business unit at a time or one payment type at a time,” says Anu Somani, head of global payables and embedded payments for U.S. Bank. “You don’t need to wait for a digital end-to-end life cycle to start experiencing the benefits for your business.”
